Lodgers and Sub-letting

Taking a Lodger

Can I Take a Lodger?

A lodger is someone who stays as a guest in your home and contributes to household costs. You may take a lodger as long as it does not overcrowd your home. Before doing so, you must seek permission by writing to Karin and providing details of the lodger.

Sub-letting Your Home:

Can I Rent Out (Sub-Let) My Home?

You cannot rent out (sub-let) your entire property. However, secure tenants can apply to sub-let part of their home, as long as it does not lead to overcrowding. Please note that Karin will not be responsible for repairs in the sub-let portion. You must write to Karin in advance and provide details of the part of your home you intend to sub-let.

Sub-letting and Benefits

How Sub-letting Affects Your Benefits?

If you receive social benefits, such as Housing Benefit or Income Support, you must inform the relevant benefit office if you sub-let part of your property, as this may impact the amount of benefits you receive.
