Healthy Eating Project

Karin and swan had meetings to discuss the best way to help with Karin’s tenants and Somali Community in east London. We realized many Somalis are suffering from various diseases that have been created by the lack of knowledge of food and balanced diet. The food we eat contains many types of nutrients and fibre. These are all required for many vital processes in our body.

Swan Housing Trust has funded Somali Healthy eating project for 12 women for 6 six weeks from March/June 2010. Your food choices can have a long-term impact on your health. There is good evidence that eating a healthy diet can reduce your risk of illnesses such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis and cancer (particularly bowel cancer).

This training will explore with Somali women the type of food they eat, how they cook, the different types of carbohydrate, protein, fat, vitamins, fibre and the best way of controlling their diet by qualified nutrition.
